The MamaAssist LabourAssist™ Service provides you with a professionally trained expert in childbirth to support you
throughout the entire childbirth process.
Having a birth doula, or labour assistant, at your disposal during your last few
weeks of pregnancy is a great way to prepare for your child's birth; You'll be able to call your doula with questions no
matter what time of day (or night) and meet with your doula for prenatal visits filled with information and hands on
learning.

Whether this is your first time having a baby, or your fourth, planning a natural, unmedicated birth or having a planned
cesarean... Our doulas have the skills, knowledge and tools to meet your individual needs. MamaAssist doulas support women and
families throughout childbirth for a living. Our doulas are trained by reputable organizations, with high standards, and regularly attend conferences
and seminars to make sure we're on top of the latest information, standards of practice, medical procedures, and even holistic therapies.
How does the LabourAssist Service work?
When you inquire about our LabourAssist doula support, we'll set up a free consultation in your home or at Dream Catcher Photo
on Hyde Park Rd., where you'll meet two doulas. The initial consultation is free, and we'll leave you with a packet of information to look
over so you can make a decision. Absolutely no pressure!
If you decide to sign on with our LabourAssist service, one of the two doulas you met will become your primary doula, and
the other will become your backup, so you'll always have someone to reach and coverage for your birth. Your primary doula
will schedule your first prenatal visit and contract signing, and she will then arrange other prenatal visits from that
point on.
When you think you are in labour, or if you think something is going on but don't know what it is, you can call your doula.
She can help you figure out what to do next. If you're in labour, your doula can come to your home and labour with you as
you'll work out in your prenatal visits. Or she can meet you right at the hospital. Your doula will stay with you until
approx. 2 hours after you have your baby. She'll make arrangements to either call or visit you the next day. We like to do
a postpartum visit 1-3 days after birth, when you are home.
What is included in prenatal visits?
While we have a standard plan for prenatal visits, we will customize the content and information to your individual
situation. Perhaps there is a threat that your labour may be induced due to a complication, and your baby may end up
spending time in the NICU? At your prenatals, we will make sure we cover what you are most likely to encounter, and answer
your specific questions. If you're worried about not being able to tell how labour starts, we have teaching sheets that
we've developed ourselves, and many experiences to share. If you need basic childbirth education on the stages of labour,
or have a problem processing a past birth, we can help with that too.
Finally, one of our prenatal visits is usually devoted to what some say doulas do best. Comfort measures! If you have a
partner that will also be with you during labour, make sure he or she attends this session. MamaAssist doulas involve your
partner as much as they want to be involved. We'll do lots of hands on work with various "tools of the trade". We'll show
you how to sit on a birth ball, or the many other positions it is useful in.

This one hour non-medical guided relaxation and massage session is meant for mamas who are beyond their “due date”.
Labour will occur when mama and baby are ready, but sometimes letting go of all worries and feeling totally

Whether you're alone or have a partner, planning a natural birth or scheduling a cesarean birth EVERY woman can benefit
from our services. Even if you choose epidural anesthesia, there are factors that can create a situation where physical
comfort measures are still needed.
Our training, experience, and skills allow us to assist families in these situations:
- No pain medication (or natural) birth
- Epidural anesthesia
or narcotic pain relief
- Scheduled cesarean birth (attendance in the OR optional)
- Emergency cesarean under general anesthesia (support partner, and mom after recovery)
